Mountain View Regional Hospital and The Facial Pain Association (FPA) are
teaming up to raise awareness about Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN), a piercing
facial pain that can affect the areas near the eyes, nose, lips, ears
and teeth. All community members are invited to support ongoing research
for TN by participating in the First Annual Facing It 5K event. The race
will begin at Mountain View Regional Hospital, located at 6550 East 2nd
Street, on Saturday, July 18, 2015.
Pre-registration deadline: Saturday, July 11
Late Registration: July 12 – July 18
Face painting: 7 a.m.
Registration and check-in: 8 a.m.
Race start time: 8:30 a.m. for walkers; 9 a.m. for runners.
July marks the 25th anniversary of FPA. To celebrate this milestone, Mountain
View Regional Hospital wants to help pick up the pace in raising awareness
about this rare, but serious medical condition. All participants are encouraged
to get their faces or upper-arms painted with the TN Facial Pain awareness
ribbon before the race. Racers will receive a free t-shirt and gift bags
that include special offers from local business sponsors. In addition,
racers and their families are invited to stay for a free brunch after
the race. Please plan to come support this cause to help raise money and
awareness for TN.
According to John Koff, CEO with FPA, "Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is
considered to be one of the most painful afflictions known to medical
practice." Often times, the only relief from TN is neurosurgery.
With so many people unaware of this condition, diagnosis is rare, it is
often mistaken for oral health issues, and surgery almost never happens.
Raising awareness is important to give people who are suffering from TN
a glimmer of hope.
Proceeds raised at the First Annual Facing It 5K will benefit the newly
formed "Facial Pain Research Foundation" to help find a cure.
Race participants can register and pre-pay for the race through active.com
or by visiting Mountain View Regional Hospital’s Facebook page.
Pre-registration cost is $25 for adults and $10 for children. After July
11, the cost is $30 for adults and $15 for children. Partnering with Mountain
View for this event is TJ Specialties, Dr. John Roussalis, Wind City Physical
