As Mountain View Regional Hospital moves toward our scheduled opening in May 2008, more information regarding a patient's visit will be available. Please check back often.

Information including what to expect in your stay, what to bring, and printable forms to make check-in simple will be available for our patients. We strive to provide you with the best level of care and comfort available. It is part of our mission to exceed your expectations.

Patient Rights and Responsibilities

At Mountain View Regional Hospital, we believe everyone deserves quality treatment and health care. You and your family have rights and responsibilities. We want you to understand and use these rights and responsibilities. If for any reason you do not understand or you need help, we will be glad to provide assistance, including an interpreter.

Patient Rights

You have the right:

  • To considerate and respectful care.
  • To be well informed about your illness, possible treatments, and likely outcome and to discuss this information with your physician.
  • To consent to or refuse a treatment, as permitted by law.  If you refuse a recommended treatment, you will receive other needed and available care.
  • To expect that your statements about pain will be believed and that your pain will be managed appropriately.
  • To remain free from restraints unless medically or behaviorally necessary to ensure a safe environment of care for you and others.
  • To receive care in a safe setting and be free from all forms of abuse or harassment and to be provided protective services as requested or required.
  • To ask and be informed of the existence of business relationships among the hospital, educational institutions, and other health care providers or payers which may influence your care or treatment.
  • To appoint a health care agent to speak in your behalf if you loose the ability to communicate your wishes regarding possible treatment alternatives and to expect that your advance directive will be followed.
  • To auditory and visual privacy to the extent possible with recognition of your personal dignity.
  • To expect that your medical record will be held in the highest confidentiality and that only individuals involved in your care or those monitoring its quality will read your medical record.
  • To expect equal medical treatment regardless of race, color, national origin, age, religion, handicap, sexual orientation, marital status, gender or economic status.
  • To know the identity and professional status of individuals providing care and services and which physician or other practitioners are primarily responsible for your care.
  • To be told of realistic care alternatives when hospital care is no longer appropriate.
  • To consent to or decline to take part in research affecting your care.  If you choose not to participate, you will receive the most effective care the hospital otherwise provides.
  • To know about hospital rules that affect you and your treatments as well as information about charges and payment methods.
  • To know about and access hospital resources such as social work, pastoral care or the Ethics Committee that can help resolve questions and concerns about your hospital stay and care.
  • To file a grievance or lodge a complaint while a patient at this hospital without fear of reprisal.
  • To review your medical records and have the information explained, except when restricted by law.
  • To an interpreter by verbal, written or signed communication when you do not speak the predominant language of the community.

Patient Responsibilities

  • Being considerate of the rights of other patients.
  • Complying with the treatment plan developed with your physician and to understand the consequences of alternative treatment and/or noncompliance.
  • Providing, to the best of your knowledge, accurate and complete information about present complaints, past illnesses, hospitalizations, medications and other matters related to your health.
  • Being respectful of the property and of other persons and of the healthcare organization.
  • Not demanding tests and diagnostic procedures, which your physician determines to be unnecessary.
  • Outcomes if you or your family refuses treatment or when the instructions of your physician are not followed.
  • Complying with all the rules and regulations of the hospital including life safety and security policies and procedures affecting patient care and conduct and to share your suggestions to improve hospital safety.
  • Taking care of our environment by participating in our recycling campaign, by not littering public areas and by not smoking on hospital grounds or anywhere in the building.
  • Not keeping valuables with you while you are in the hospital.
  • Providing accurate information about any pain or discomfort you may be experiencing.
  • Informing staff of any dietary needs based on religious or ethical beliefs or practices.
  • Actively participating in your discharge planning with your physician and other members of your healthcare team as early as practical during your hospital stay.

Preparing for your Surgery

Sometime before your surgery date, a staff member from Mountain View Regional Hospital will call you to confirm your surgery time. They will also ask you questions regarding current or past medical conditions, allergies and medications you are taking. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, and be sure to let the staff know of any special needs. On the day of your surgery, the admissions department will ask many of these questions again.

  • Your doctor or a nurse will instruct you as to WHAT TIME YOU ARE TO STOP EATING AND DRINKING prior to your surgery.
  • If you take medication for any condition, ask your doctor and/or the nurse whether or not to take it the day of surgery.
  • For women, if there is any possibility you are pregnant, please notify your doctor and the nurse.
  • Leave all valuables at home, including watches, rings, jewelry and wallets.
  • Notify your surgeon of any change in your health, such as a cold, fever or sore throat.
  • For your safety, please arrange for an adult to drive you home after surgery. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home.
